Due to the complexity of the surfaces, height and mass of the former mill silos on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca, 3D scanning is the only survey method that provides precision, speed, minimum effort and maximum safety in collecting data from the field.
In addition to surveying all rooms from the basement level to the terraced roof, the 3D laser scanner was also lowered into each silo, completely revealing all surfaces of the building.
The pointcloud being a complete and precise basis, it was possible to create a 3D CAD model of the construction, helping the team of architects in finding the most optimal solution from a structural, economic and spatial point of view for the conversion of the former industrial building into a new function.
Scanning took place in October and November 2020, with the 3D model completed in mid-January 2021
